Dedication

At Dakota Surgical, we are dedicated to maintaining a skilled multi-disciplinary team to provide the finest quality surgical services. Our mission is to provide optimum surgical care to the surgical patient in a cost effective manner.

Experience

Dr. Frederick L. Harris is the only living general surgeon from South Dakota to sit as an Associate Examiner for the American Board of Surgery. He is the only South Dakotan surgeon to be elected to the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma. Dr. Harris has served as president of the South Dakota chapter of the American College of Surgery and as president of the region's recognized Vascular Society. Dr. Harris is board certified in Surgery and Surgical Critical Care. He was honored in 2002 as South Dakota's surgeon of the year.

Dr. Harris has been an educator for the public, physicans' assistant students, nursing students, medical students, resident staff, and fellow physicians. He lectures regularly in local, regional, and national forums.

Caring

Dakota Surgical has developed offices that are patient friendly for all ages and all sizes. Our facilities are wheel chair accessible - even in event of a power outage.

Our staff has been hand selected to provide competent, caring patient services. Continuing education is required for staff and physicians.

Results

At Dakota Surgical, providing quality surgical services is top priority. Our surgical staff is responsible for the development of South Dakota's first verified Trauma Center, the only trauma center to have been honored as "without weakness" by the American College of Surgeon's examiners. Dr. Harris has directed the development of Avera McKennan's quality assurance programs for trauma and obesity services.

When Dr. Harris' bariatric surgery results are compared with the results from surgeons at 40 Midwest hospitals, his outcomes are significantly better.

Dr. Harris also specializes in reworking bariatric surgeries performed elsewhere that have had complications or suboptimal results.

Team Work

Dakota Surgical regularly consults with local, regional, and national experts to insure optimal results.
